Dear Oakland ACE Families,

We are excited to kick off another great year with you! As a reminder, OCC courses and Seminar begin the week of August 25th. Students are expected to attend their OCC classes and Seminar even if their high school does not resume until the following week.

For students taking online OCC courses, it is very important to log into D2L and begin participating right away. Professors may drop students for non-attendance if they do not engage during the first week.

It is common at this time of year for OCC to cancel a handful of class sections. Students will be notified of any changes through their OCC email. Beginning August 18th, please check OCC email daily for important updates from professors and information about class cancellations. Professors will also begin posting their course syllabi in D2L on August 18th. This is the perfect time to:

  • Print and carefully review each syllabus.

  • Add important due dates and assignments to your calendar.

  • Check whether your professor expects reading or work to be completed before the first class.

If a professor requires you to purchase course materials or an online resource that is not available through the OCC bookstore, please email Mrs. Mason right away. She will make arrangements to cover these costs. Students should not pay for required course materials on their own. If you are interested in recommended (not required) items, please email Mrs. Mason with your request so she can plan and approve appropriately.

For our 11th and 12th grade students, as your high school schedules are released, you may notice adjustments are needed. Please kindly remind your high school counselor of any updates. Counselors are always welcome to contact us with questions about what to include in your high school schedule.

We’re looking forward to a successful start to the semester. Thank you for supporting your student in getting organized and prepared!

Warmly,

The Oakland ACE Team

Ainsley Rahm

“The past few years have been really hard, but it’s been great getting to know everyone and being a part of the ACE community at OCC. I had no idea what ACE was going to be like, and it looks like going to OCC turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.”

“OCC has provided me with a better education, and I have been able to learn what college is like at a younger age than most people. I appreciate the impact OCC has had on me, and I understand what classes will be like when I transfer to a university.”

“At OCC, I learned to take advantage of any opportunity because you never know what can come out of it or who you may meet. It’s so important to branch out, even if you are uncertain or nervous. I came to OCC as a high school student not sure about much, and I’m leaving with more knowledge both from inside the classroom and outside of it.”
