Buses Lined Up - Transportation Services

Oakland Schools Transportation Services is dedicated to
supporting the safe, timely and efficient school bus transportation for over 90,000 students across Oakland County.

Oakland Schools leads a collaborative effort to provide special education transportation as well as cooperative purchasing for school bus parts, tires, drug and alcohol testing and physicals. Transportation Services also provides consultation services, computer software and support for school bus routing, fleet management and driver certification programs.

Dedicated to the education and professional development of transportation staff, Michigan State Mandated School Bus Safety Education and other training relative to school transportation are also offered. Our website includes resources for school personnel, students, parents and the community.

Safety education for School Bus Drivers and persons in charge of school bus operations is mandated by Michigan State Law 257.1851, School Bus Safety Education.

  • Classes begin promptly at 7:00 AM and end at 1:00 PM. This includes two 15 minute breaks.
  • It is suggested that participants bring their own snacks.
  • Drivers must attend all four (4) days and pass a written exam to be eligible to receive a Course Completion Card.
  • Course Completion Cards (yellow card) will be mailed to the local school district transportation supervisor within 10 days of course completion.
  • Oakland Schools must be notified at least seven (7) business days prior to the scheduled class date of any cancellation.
  • Any registration changes must be made not less than three (3) business days before the start of class.
  • Please note: Persons arriving late will not be admitted to class

Registration:
A $90 course fee will be assessed at the time of registration using a purchase order or credit card.

Upon receipt of the on-line registration the registrant's Course Enrollment Card (white card) will be sent to the school district. Course Enrollment Cards are valid for ten (10) days after the completion date of the course and can't be issued until ninety (90) days prior to the scheduled course.

  • Students are required to bring their Beginning Bus Driver Manual to this class.
  • Drivers must attend the six hour course and pass a written exam to be eligible to receive a Certificate of Continuing Education Card (green card).
  • Course Completion Cards (green card) will be mailed to the local school district transportation supervisor.

Mandated Supervisor Education

The Michigan Department of Education has separated transportation supervisor training into two segments. Three hours shall be taken each year to be eligible for a supervisor card.

The three hour training sessions will only be held one time each year at Oakland Schools. To be eligible for a supervisor card, attendance is required for all six hours.

Please note: Public Act 187 states: "The person or persons in charge of school bus operations at a school shall successfully complete 6 hours of supervisor continuing education every 2 years after the successful completion of the beginning school bus driver training program."
