Request for Records

Oakland Schools does not hold student records for the local school districts of Oakland County, nor are we a degree-granting entity.

Student Records

Oakland Schools can provide records for past and/or current students attending an Oakland Schools educational program. Please submit your request to LegalAffairs@oakland.k12.mi.us.

FERPA

A request made under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), a federal law, seeks access to educational information and records.

Examples of FERPA requests include, but are not limited to, report cards, disciplinary records, IEPs, Section 504 Plans, and attendance records.

Oakland Schools can only complete an education verification for students currently enrolled in an Oakland Schools educational program. If seeking an education verification (i.e., graduation verification, transcripts, grades, diploma/degree, etc.) for a former student, please contact the local school district from which the student graduated.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request affords the requestor the opportunity to inspect or receive documents and records of a public body.

Examples of FOIA requests include, but are not limited to, Board packets and/or minutes, bid documents, employee compensation information, and employee emails or other written communications.

If there is a need to subpoena Oakland Schools for employee or student records or for an employee to testify in a legal matter, valid methods of service include:
