Celebrate Earth Day With Us!

The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, and since then, it has become an important day for individuals, organizations, and governments around the world to take action on issues related to climate change, pollution, and other environmental problems.

Drugs

Unneeded medications can end up lost, stolen or simply misused.  As a part of DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, this event is a great opportunity for you to properly dispose of any unused and outdated prescription drugs. Not only will this help keep you and your community safe, but also ensures that they don't end up in our waterways or soil, preventing harm to wildlife and the ecosystem.

bicycle

Bikes

Do you have an old bike lying around that you don't use anymore? Why not donate it to a good cause? The Oakland County Sheriff's Re-CYCLE for Kids Program in this event is going to accept donations of bikes, which will be repaired and refurbished to give to kids and families in need. It's a wonderful way to help out in your community and give more children a chance to enjoy the outdoors  and stay active.

electronic recycle

Electronics

Every year, millions of recyclable computers and electronic devices end up in a landfill.  You can help prevent harmful materials from leaching into our soil and groundwater by recycling your electronic devices. In this event, Hightech Recycling will make it easy for you to safely and correctly recycle all of your electronics. Go to Hightech Recycling website to see the entire list for items that Hightech Recycling will accept.

Prescription Drug Collection Guidelines

  • ONLY prescription drugs are collected.
  • Needles are NOT accepted.
  • All liquids must be tightly sealed.
  • All other drugs MUST be in sealed containers--NO LOOSE PILLS! (Zippered plastic bags are acceptable.)

Drive-Thru

Oakland Schools is hosting this free drive-thru recycling event.  Bikes, electronics or unneeded medications may be dropped off at the Oakland Schools' parking lot. No need to get out of your car. Our team of volunteers will assist you in dropping off the above items. Please follow directional signs.

Support Together

The Sheriff's Re-CYCLE for Kids relies on private partners like Dan Gutfreund Realty Group, 1-800-Self-Storage.com, and others to strengthen and grow the program.  Additionally, a robust volunteer operation now assists with the work of refurbishing and repairing the donated bikes on an as-needed basis. The recycled bikes are distributed to families in need at events and by appointment.

  • To learn more about the project, or to volunteer or support it, please contact Community Liaison, Mandy Ford, at 248-858-1947, or fordal@oakgov.com.
  • To donate a bicycle (new or used), they may be dropped off at any of the Sheriff's Office locations in Oakland County or at 1-800-Self-Storage.com locations in Troy and Oak Park.
