Educators
Career Readiness experiences offer educators opportunities to engage with and learn from leaders in the business/industry and post-secondary communities. The outcome is for educators to share what they learned from the industry and post-secondary partners with their students to help them better prepare to enter the workforce.
In this on-going series, K-12 teachers, counselors and administrators spend part of a day with local employers, exploring industry trends and ways to connect classroom content to the work world and best business practices. During an event participants gain:
- Information about local employer needs, labor market trends and new technologies relevant for educators.
- Connections between their classroom content to real world applications and business practices ensuring students are career ready.
- Meaningful collaboration between educators and the business community.

The K-12 Career Readiness Unit at Oakland Schools has been busy this summer preparing for the rollout and implementation of Xello K-5 for our local 28 districts. We are excited to include even our youngest students in the Xello experience, which now spans K-12.

d.Solve: Launching Virtually, was hosted for Oakland County Educators, beginning August 3, 2020. This dynamic 2-week program engaged participants in the opportunity to actively explore creative problem solving. To inspire creativity and to build collaborative skills, d.Solve: Launching Virtually participants were challenged with an authentic industry problem

Cathy McCafferty-Smith, MA LPC CPC, an entrepreneur and executive coach from Know U, LLC joined Oakland County administrators, teachers, and counselors to engage in an Educators in Industry dialogue around how to build and inspire the next generation of leaders. Paul Galbenski, Dean of Oakland Schools Technical Campus - North East joined the educators in a discussion of how to use and embed skill frameworks in classroom teaching and learning.
