Traumatic Brain Injury

Students with physical impairment(s) may require support to access the general education curriculum.

The Oakland Schools teacher consultants for students with physical impairments provide consultation services in accordance with a student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Local districts must request services by completing a District Service Request (DSR) and submitting necessary documentation.

Service delivery may include:

  • Consultation with educational staff and families regarding assistive technology for written production
  • Technical support regarding use of assistive technology and adaptive devices for written production

A traumatic brain Injury (TBI) may affect how a student acts, moves, thinks and learns within the school environment.

  • Instruction to foster compensatory strategies
  • Consultation with educational staff and families regarding strategies and accommodations
  • Technical support regarding use of assistive technology and adaptive devices for compensatory strategies
  • Evaluation for eligibility in collaboration with local district staff
