Oakland Schools is deeply committed to supporting opportunities for students to learn additional languages and strengthen their native/heritage languages. We collaborate with Oakland County LEAs and PSAs to prepare graduates with the linguistic, cultural, socio-emotional and academic competencies required for college, career, and civic participation in a diverse multilingual world. We also partner with educators and leaders to support the use of evidence-based practices in language acquisition, instruction, assessment and leadership for all world and heritage language students. Additionally, we support the recognition of students' multilingual competencies through the Michigan Seal of Biliteracy.
