Our mission is to ensure that every student has access to high-quality computer science learning experiences that foster critical thinking, creativity, and the skills needed for the future. We will support school districts in expanding equitable and innovative computer science education by providing resources, professional learning, and collaborative learning opportunities.

  • Computer Science Course Requirement Guidance

    The Michigan Department of Education announces the release of the Computer Science Course Requirement Guidance on Public Act 206 of 2024 to assist districts in implementing computer science courses pursuant to the new law. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed Public Act 206 of 2024 (Michigan Compiled Laws, Section 380.1166c) into law, to require all public high schools in Michigan to offer at least one computer science course to students enrolled in a public high school, beginning in the 2027–28 academic year. This law is critical to ensuring that all students are equipped with essential skills for a modern, technology-driven economy.

    • The Regional Educational Media Center (REMC) Association of Michigan, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1969, consists of 28 local centers operated through the Intermediate School District structure.

    • Oakland Schools operates REMC 17 at the Oakland Schools main campus. REMC 17 provides professional development services, instructional resources and consulting services to the public school districts and public school academies of Oakland County. Vinos Kassab is the Director of REMC 17.

Computer Science Educator Network

Purpose: The Oakland Schools Computer Science Educator Network is a collaborative network dedicated to advancing equitable, high-quality computer science education. Through shared expertise, resource development, and advocacy, the network will empower educators to integrate computer science into all learning environments, ensuring every student gains the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a technology-driven world.

  • Half day meetings will be held in-person three times per school year. Monthly one-hour meetings will be virtual.
