Substitute Teachers

The State of Michigan requires any substitute teacher candidate to complete 60 credit hours in any subject area from a four-year college or university.  The permit application must be submitted to the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) by the district in which you will be working.  An official transcript is required. View MDE Teacher Permit information here.​​

These are for substitutes who do not have a teaching certificate but are working in an extended substitute assignment. The application requirements vary for each type of permit and must be submitted by the district in which you will be working. View MDE Teacher Permit information here.​

Oakland Schools does not hire substitute teachers for the 28 school districts​ in Oakland County. If you are interested in substitute teaching for a specific school district you need to contact that district.
