On Nov. 20, 2019, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners announced the winners of Oakland County’s “I Voted!” sticker contest. Winners Penelope Blanchard (9th grade) from Walled Lake Western High School and Charlisa Penzak (6th grade) from Birmingham Covington School will have their designs printed as ‘I Voted!’ stickers, which will be distributed to voters at precincts throughout the county in 2020. Both students received a $1,000 prize courtesy of Cornerstone Community Financial Credit Union. More than 600 middle and high school students across Oakland County submitted entries.

Congratulations to Oakland Schools Communications Services! The team was just recognized with two honorable mentions in PR Daily’s international nonprofit awards program for two successful marketing campaigns promoting Oakland Schools’ advocacy and community efforts.
Joel Massarello, who teaches automotive technology at Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northwest (OSTC-NW) in Clarkston, was surprised during an assembly on Oct. 24 by a representative from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools with the news that he and his school will receive $50,000—$35,000 for the school’s skilled trades program and $15,000 for him personally.
