In 2016, the Oakland Opportunity Academy was awarded the Crystal Star Award of Excellence in Dropout Recovery, Intervention, and Prevention by the National Dropout Prevention Network. The National Dropout Prevention Network works to improve opportunities for all young people to fully develop the academic, social, work, and healthy life skills needed to graduate from high school and lead productive lives.
The NDPC awards the Crystal Star Award to programs and individuals that have made significant contributions to the advancement of the organization's mission.
Oakland Opportunity Academy has been offering credit recovery and career technical education in a smaller, self-paced environment for seven years. During the 2016-17 school year, 188 students passed 1,765 classes at OOA, with 81 students graduating with a high school diploma from their sending schools.
Congratulations OOA staff and students!
