Oakland Schools developing child care resources to support medical personnel and first responders

Licensed child care providers urgently sought

Oakland Schools is working in cooperation with state and local partners to support the Executive Order issued by Governor Whitmer on March 18. Oakland Schools is working to ensure the following three priorities are addressed immediately:

  1. To ensure local licensed child care providers respond to the survey from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services - Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). This survey will allow Oakland Schools to monitor the existing capacity of local providers who are able to provide emergency care to essential workers. The link to the short survey is:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/childcare-covid-response. Please respond by noon on Friday, March 20.
  2. Schools with immediate capacity to open such a center or reopen a current center should complete the short survey linked above.
  3. To connect local essential workers to child care providers who have the capacity to provide care for their children. Please direct members of the essential workforce  to www.helpmegrow-mi.org/essential and their information will be routed to Oakland Schools, Help Me Grow Care Coordinators and others who will help them find care.

Oakland Schools is communicating with our hospitals and reaching out to employers to help spread the word on this child care resource for essential workers, as well as working with the local school district community, to put in place contingency plans to open emergency child care centers.
