An entertaining talk on Web 2.0 and the Internet World comparing Web 1.0 to Web 2.0; publishing/participation, content management/wikis, directories/tagging, etc. Rainie will discuss six halmarks describing how people use Web 2.0; the impact of the distribution of the broadband; student use; and how the variety of social networking tools and ease of access are facilitating the growth of Web 2.0.

Students who use assistive technology tools and strategies often have difficulty with traditional print materials such as textbooks. Join Kelly to learn more about the IDEA 2004’s mandate that specialized formats of core instructional materials be provided to students who require them. Find out what you need to think about when making decisions about accessible instructional materials and how NIMAS, the AIM Consortium and lessons learned from over two decades of assistive technology can help.
Exploring Universal Access to the Curriculum through Technology in the Classroom
Universal Access can be an ominous term in the classroom. What impact does it have on how you teach? What impact is confronted in the technology lab or computers in the classroom? We’ll start by exploring the meaning and intention of universal access for students with disabilities in school settings with the emphasis on technology. We’ll look at universal access to all computers for students with a range of disabilities including learning disabilities, cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities and vision impairments.Finally, we will address connections to the classroom including how Universal Design is impacted by NCLB, IDEA and RTI.

Presenting the results of the 2007 Students Speak Up data. In the past, dat have been collected fro students and teachers and now the collection includes parents and principals. Julie will provide a summary of Oakland County and national data so that we can learn how students, teachers and parents are using technology and what erheir expections are.

Using Technology To Improve Writing
Students use Writer keyboards for daily keyboarding practice, Writers Workshop, and weekly keyboard generated writing prompts. The iScore and suggestions for improvement provided by the keyboard motivate students to revise and improve their writing without much teacher direction. Student Writer Response Teams gather and use the SMART Board to revise/edit each other's work. Dialogue is recorded on a digital voice recorder. Revised drafts are beamed to the computer and saved for publication/presentation "polish" in the computer lab. Handouts: Using Technology PowerPoint

This session will review a teacher-tested Moodle Railroad Unit. This Unit uses the content management tool Moodle to support an 8th grade social studies unit on the growth of the railroad industry at the turn of the last century. Developed with input from the teachers, Pam will discuss how this Moodle unit was used with all 8th grade students in Walled Lake for the past two years. She will also discuss exciting changes that have recently been added to incorporate collaborative on-line projects. This session will review how a Novi High School Science Teacher uses Moodle to support her Science Classes. This teacher, moving from Blackboard to Moodle, has been using Blackboard for eight years and is now switching to Moodle to support teaching. Kris will provide insight and strategies for using content management systems generally and Moodle specifically.

Dawn Jones and Peter Zaremba, Consultants, Oakland Schools UDL Strategies and Tools for Addressing the Online Learning Requirement and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
The Online Learning Requirement includes language addressing the need to “ensure accessibility for all students, any applications that are developed or resources used in an online environment should be compliant with the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended”. Peter Zaremba and Dawn Jones will discuss and demonstrate UDL strategies and tools that will enable all users of online resources developed by teachers to be successful.
