 Power UP! FEATURE SPEAKERS

  • Lee Rainie
    Lee Rainie, Director, Pew Internet & American Life Project will give an entertaining talk on Web 2.0 and the Internet World, comparing Web 1.0 to Web 2.0: publishing/participation, content management/wikis, directories/tagging, etc. Rainie will discuss six hallmarks describing how people use Web 2.0; the impact of the distribution of broadband; student use; and how the variety of social networking tools and ease of access are facilitating the growth of Web 2.0.
  • Bruce Umpstead
    Bruce Umpstead, Director of Technology for the State of Michigan, will provide an overview of the state of technology use in Michigan and provide some insight into what tomorrow will bring. Bruce will highlight key initiatives and possibly clarify some issues.
  • Julie Evans
    Julie Evans, Chief Executive Officer, Project Tomorrow will discuss the results of the 2007 Students Speak Up data. In the past, data have been collected from students and teachers and now the collection includes parents and principals. Julie will provide a summary of Oakland County and national data so that we can learn how students, teachers and parents are using technology and what their expectations are. This session will be an interesting comparison of the first session on Web 2.0.
  • Kelly Fonner, MS
    Kelly Fonner is an international speaker in the area of Universal Design for Learning, Assistive Technology and Educational Technology. She will be presenting two sessions on Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Implementation Strategies in the Classroom.

  • Sessions on podcasts, handhelds, digital media, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), videoconferencing, implementation of online learning requirements, multimedia, Web 2.0, Students Speak Up survey data, and much more!
  • Student Showcases: 9:30 - 11:30 AM and 12:30-2:30 PM.
  • Get a statewide perspective of the direction of educational technology including the NCLB Technology Literacy requirement, and the new online learning requirements.
  • Engage in conversations with fellow educators about their use of technology for managing and delivering instruction and processing information.
  • Learn about new and exciting products from vendors and other educators to help manage and facilitate instruction.
