Each year Oakland Schools, supported by the Oakland Schools Education Foundation, coordinates and hosts the Oakland County Teacher of the Year program. Each school district that elects to participate selects a coordinator to oversee the process at the district level. Each district coordinator can submit up to three nominees (one elementary, one middle school and one high school) to Oakland Schools by February 15, 2012. Oakland Schools will not accept nominations that are not signed by the district coordinator. Each participating district may have individual timelines and district requirements. Please contact the district coordinator for specific information.
Districts are required to fill out the nomination form electronically, then print, sign and mail the hard copy to Oakland Schools. Please note: nominations that are not submitted correctly will lose points.
All nominations that are received at the county level will be distributed to our selection committee. Each nomination will be reviewed and scored (see the sample score sheet here) and the totals will be tallied by the end of March. Once we have the highest scored nominee for each level, arrangements will be made to make a surprise announcement to those teachers at their schools.
All county level nominees will be recognized at the Oakland County Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards program on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Oakland Schools.
