Substitute Teaching  

Substitute requirements
The State of Michigan requires any substitute teacher candidate to complete 90 credit hours in any subject area from a four-year college or university. 

Emergency/150-Day Permit
These are for substitutes who do not have a teaching certificate. The application for an Emergency permit/150 day permit must be submitted by the district that you will be working in.

Oakland Schools does not hire substitute teachers for the 28 school districts in Oakland County.  If you are interested in substitute teaching for a specific school district you need to contact that district.

Substitute teaching for Oakland Schools (intermediate school district) programs
Oakland Schools currently utilizes substitute teachers in the four technical campuses that provide Career Focused Education. The campuses are located in Clarkston, Pontiac, Royal Oak, and Walled Lake. For more information about the campuses, click here.
